No sooner is the record breaking 22 1/2" x 18" cutting board completed and delivered that in come Chris and Chris show up to destroy the record. Chris and Chris are a great couple who received one of my breadboards as a gift - some people have all the luck... ;-) - and tracked me down from the business card that was included. The "Chrises" want three cutting boards, the largest of which is a massive 17 1/2" x 28" affair. Granted, it's only for decorative purposes, but I don;t think we're going to break that record anytime soon. Since they would like these all made out of cher
Christmas is right around the corner and I still have unfinished requests for items for Christmas. I'm in the last steps and have made boxes, toys, and the most gigantic cutting board I've ever made at 22 1/2 x 18 inches. There's more work to be done, but my clients were nice enough to say: "No hurry, after the Holidays is fine." Whew, thank goodness!
The crafting season really reduced my stock of lumber. So I went to KJP Select Hardwoods over the weekend to restock. Mmmm, mmmm good. The store was as amazing as ever and they are expanding too! I got some Nogal for the first time. It's a Brazilian walnut but the colour is not like our North American walnut... more milk chocolatey. I also restocked on a lot of hard sugar maple and nicely tinted cherry wood, woods that I constantly use and are the backbone of the stuff I produce. I picked up a nice very orange board of padauk, a very curly fiddleback maple board, and a gorgeous spalted maple board (see pic). That board will be used in something nice... not sure what yet. What do you do after such an amazing crafting season? Well, clean up of course. The workshop was a mess where orderliness was sacrificed in the name of speed. Blades need to be sharpened, supplies acquired... *sigh*
Denise and I went to visit Teri Anne Ryerson of Yakety Yak Designs. Teri and I have crossed oaths at many craft shows this year. This was Teri Anne's 8th craft show of the season (if memory serves) and her last one. I had always been admiring her work at all the shows at which we both participated, especially a few pieces in these colours (pictured). I knew she was changing her studios and the glaze colours wer likely to change, and I really loved these colours. With Christmas fast approaching, now was my opportunity to pick up a little something. Beautiful, isn't it? A very lucky colleague of mine is going to get this for Christmas!! I've had a few requests for more pictures of what I'm working on. More of that soon.
Right now, I'm back in the workshop to do some custom work that was requested. First, the mother of all cutting boards (a 24" x 18" monster) in cherry wood, and a Board for dipping bread with a small bowl sized depression for the vinegar and oil. That last one could be a little tough. There was a pretty good turn-out of people at the show, and they really appreciated wood products. The cutting boards were especially popular: all seven that I'd made during the week are now gone. Thanks to Jennifer at the Mutchmor Public School Council for organizing the show.
