I was contacted by someone who had seen my work at the Sir Wilfrid Laurier show to build a flag box for a retiring member of the Canadian military. I was honoured to be able to help.
We picked spalted maple as the main wood, with a walnut and cheery as secondary woods. We're also going to put padauk keys in the corners which will be decorative but will also re-enforce the corner joints.
Here's one of the glue ups. It doesn't look like much, but then again, it usually doesn't until I apply the finish.
