A while back, I started looking into making pens. I made about 20 samples of cigar and thinline pens. I gave one or two away as gifts, and I kept my stock of extras at work. Well, lo and behold, one got sold, and the word got around. I'm now down to my last few (pictured), one of which is my own personal pen (bottom one).
I don't usually make pens; there are a lot of pen makers out there and I don't want to invest in a lathe for serious pen making. But I did modify my drill press to accept the required mandrels and I use various grits of sandpaper to shape and finish the pens. It works pretty well and a pen can be created in about 20-30 minutes. So I think it's time to make some more pens. Why not? They are indeed a great graduation gift.
