I've been doing the striped cutting boards for a long time and figured it was time for a little change. So introducing the "new" striped cutting boards. Also, some boards for which people have been asking for a long time: with a handle. It's the same handle design as my breadboards; it's comfortable and secure in the hand, plus it's easy to hang.

Spent some time finishing in the workshop for the show at Sir Wil this weekend (be there or be square). These new business card holders stocks about 15-20 cards in your pocket or purse, and can be opened up to act as a little display case for your card... also a shameless plug for Crazy Goat Coffee Co. Here's another new toy I've just finished, this one for infants: that quintessential big bead toy that every kid has had in one version or another. This one is made of cherry wood (for the frame), the balls are painted maple (with safe paints, of course), and the dowels are poplar. It measures 10 inches high by 12 inches wide; perfect for the child that has just learned to sit up. I finally finished the toy trains. They are a LOT of work. Because little hands are going to be playing with these, I wanted to make everything rock solid. I also want to make it ultra-safe, so I had to ease all the sharp edges... and there are a lot of edges. Thankfully, it's done. The trains have been painted in bright latex colours that are safe when completely cured (about 2 weeks), which is perfect timing for the craft shows. I think I'm going to ask people to place an order for these as opposed to buying them on the spot, as I expect they'll fly off the shelf even at $50 each. Yesterday, I designed a dump truck and I'll try to build a quick prototype to get all the measurements right. I'm also building an abacus-like wooden ball toy for little ones 6 months old and up. A quick post before the CIBC Run for the Cure to show you the little train sets I`m working on. They are being painted with safe paints that I used to make some murals. The colours are `sun yellow`. ``leaf green`, `superhero blue`, and `spidey red``. There are going to be simple train sets that a kid can carry with him as a briefcase. More pics soon. There's nothing like feeling like Santa's elf. While I have some items I'm working on for clients, the craft show season is fast approaching, and this year, I'm concentrating on the kids. And that means wood toys. I'd dabbled a little bit into toy-making, but this year, I'm building trains, marble track toys, cars, helicopters, and baby toys as well. While the North Pole may be ringing with the sound of little hammers, my workshop is ringing with the sound of power tools. But it's a lot of fun. I'll have some pics for you soon. Here's a pic of a helicopter toy I made last season. |
